Hand-painted floors were the jumping-off point for designer Amy Peltier’s soothing primary bedroom design. “It was so much work, but it turned out beautiful.” The firm wanted the space to feel “light and airy and breezy,” and incorporated fabrics and wall coverings by Thibaut in a soft color palette. Peltier and designer Marina Kelly installed an arch to divide the bedroom from the sitting area, breaking up the large space.

Below are some of the most popular types of posters that you can create. Using background shapes in this way will not only give your icons some room to breathe, but it will also make them a lot more eye-catching. Without the border shapes in the example above, the icons would have just faded into the background.

There you will find a more in-depth guide on creating a killer poster. Start by picking a template that will help communicate the goal of your poster. Look for templates that reflect your poster’s theme or have the right layout you’re looking for. A poster template will give you a foundation to create your own poster stand, your own design. If you want your poster to look really good on social media, size it for the specific platform you’re promoting it on. You may want to make a couple of different versions of your poster for different platforms.

Ten colourful and comfortable 1970s-style interiors

Eight years later, the couple eloped, making “the very wise decision of doing it over Thanksgiving weekend so it’s a nice, clean, anniversary,” explains Dabestani, 40, an actor and producer. Toward the end of the 1970s, postmodernism emerged as a design movement. It often involved eclectic combinations of historical and contemporary styles, bold colors, and unconventional shapes.

Shag pile rugs

Velvet upholstery, corduroy cushions, shag carpets, and other tactile materials reigned. Everything was designed to be soft and cozy – a trend we can get on board with today. Glenn Lawson and Nima Dabestani value alignment in all areas of their life. The couple met in Los Angeles 11 years ago on the day after Thanksgiving.

The Decade That Taste Forgot: Lavish And Luxe Interiors Of The 1970s

Instead of relying on streamlined, minimal objects to decorate your home, opt for maximalist pieces instead. Pick large, chunky vases or bookends to give your room a lot of extra interest. From hippie boho to glam disco vibes, this decade is packed with dreamy ideas. Weekly updates on the latest design and architecture vacancies advertised on Dezeen Jobs. Daily updates on the latest design and architecture vacancies advertised on Dezeen Jobs. While it may look just like a 1970s office, this interior by Shanghai studio AIM Architecture is actually a retail store for cosmetics brand Harmay.

Earthy Color Palette

This is the latest in our lookbooks series, which provides visual inspiration from Dezeen's archive. For more inspiration see previous lookbooks featuring interiors with Eames chairs, living rooms in Victorian homes and open-plan modernist living areas. The 1970s have long been lampooned for their more questionable choices, like plastic-covered furniture, traffic-cone orange palettes, and musty-dusty shag carpets.

The tulip chair

Today, these earth tones are making a comeback to make spaces feel more warm and homey. Take the sunken living room, carefully graded in ecru, beige, and caramel tones that pick up on the palette of the majestic desert landscape visible through a vast window wall. The furnishings include vintage standouts—a ’70s brass table and chairs designed by Jansen, a ’60s Adrian Pearsall daybed—blended with contemporary pieces from Smith’s own Jasper line. Everything rests atop a graphic striped rug that he had custom made for the space.

Stylish Ambient Lighting

When flipping through design magazines and home improvement shows, it appeared that homeowners agreed to ascribe to monotony in the 2010s. Once again, homeowners are looking to embrace color and personal style, just like we did in the 70s and 80s. So it makes sense that these past design trends are making a comeback. Don’t be afraid to do something different when it comes to your renovation, and seek inspiration from the rebellious homeowners of past decades. Historically, wall-to-wall carpets of the 18th and 19th centuries were made from wool, expensive to produce, and reserved for only the most luxurious homes.

Rattan furniture, macramé details, and more could be found from room to room. On the opposite end of the spectrum, floral patterns and animal prints abounded. These prints featured big, colorful flowers with intricate detailing. Nostalgia for earlier eras led to the use of retro and vintage-inspired floral patterns—often featuring motifs from the 1920s, 1930s, or 1950s. The aesthetic industry, from fashion to interior design, often reveals itself to be cyclical. Lights that can retract up or extend down are a useful addition when eating to create that authentic mood.

But the 2020s take is more restrained, more curated, cherry-picking ’70s-inspired highlights while ditching the dated aspects. The renovation will take several years, in large part because of the structure’s unusual dimensions. “Everything is a little bit uneven.” Installing basic items like a refrigerator or kitchen countertop requires careful planning and custom-crafted designs. “Homes are like breathing organisms—they expand and contract with heat,” says Fouquet of the old wooden beams. The 1970s was a decade where wallpaper was used with great enthusiasm. Every room was covered in a patterned wallpaper, and every room had a different pattern, which was sometimes combined with contrasting patterned curtain fabric and patterned carpet.

We love velvet because they are easy to clean and hide dirt and grime easily. One of the best ways to channel a former decade in your home décor is by displaying your family treasures straight from that decade. Dig through mom's closet to find trinkets and knick-knacks to style the perfect '70s shelf. The crafty hand-knotted look is back and it's a great way to fill the space behind a bed, couch, or on the back of a door. If you're crafty you can learn to macrame yourself, but you can also find many beautiful designs on Etsy and other retailers. Ashley Knierim has over a decade of experience in writing, editing, and content strategy.

Style Icon Lee Radziwill created an interior that would feel as sophisticated today as it did in the 1970's. Filled with cane furniture, plants, exotic eastern-inspired bookcases, a boldly patterned carpet, and a lovely shade of earthy pink, this is at the height of '70s interior design. While 1970s home decor trends are everywhere, the best way to incorporate this design style in your home is to shop for pre-loved and vintage pieces from or inspired by the era. Not only does this ensure your pieces are authentic, but it’s also a sustainable way of shopping that reduces waste and gives new life to furniture. Embracing vintage and upcycled furniture and lamps from the ‘70s is simple with Kaiyo – plus, we plant a tree for every order completed on our website. The past decade of interior design has focused on uniformity, clean lines, neutral color palettes, and an overall lack of personal expression.

Sandy yellows mix with bold blues in each room, while collectible design pieces like Mario Bellini sofas, Ingo Maurer wall lamps and a chequered Ettore Sottsass rug feature in the guest lounge. Classically 1970s materials such as velvet, elm and fluted glass were deployed alongside subtle contemporary elements including micro-cement flooring. When the furniture designer Glenn Lawson set about renovating a house in the Santa Barbara hills, he committed to honoring its heritage.

Iconic to the decade was a type of pottery from West Germany with typically bright colours and patterns and a ‘lava’ glaze that gives pieces a distinctive bubbling effect. Go for a striking light with a conical shade or display a collection of vases in odd numbers in varying shapes and sizes for a polished look. Pop your house plants in an attractive lava pot to accentuate its beauty. You can still pick up basic designs from thrift stores or car boot sales for very little money. No entertaining space is complete without a bar cart, but consider swapping that modern glass or metal one for a tiki-inspired rattan cart. Rattan works wonderfully with so many decor styles, including mid-century modern and Scandinavian.

Fuel your creative fire & be a part of a supportive community that values how you love to live. For more from the 1970s, check out the decade's most absurd menswear ads as well as some of the era's most unbelievable cocaine ads. Mass production didn’t enter the picture until 1971, with the Bocca, a love seat manufactured in polyurethane foam covered in lipstick-red nylon.

Mix muted shades with warm neutrals for a '70s-inspired color scheme that still feels fresh. Layers of tactile materials such as macramé, shag carpeting, and bouclé fabric steep '70s style in casual comfort, and you can easily incorporate these textures amid more contemporary furnishings. The goal is to "add a bit of retro whimsy to a space while maintaining that much-needed air of sophistication," says Lance Thomas of Lousiana-based Thomas Guy Interiors.

She is also a home décor and DIY enthusiast who spends her free time decorating (and redecorating) her home. A muted dash of orange and a wicker accent chair result in a toned-down '70s vibe that can be updated over time. An original stone fireplace is all this room needs to feel perfectly '70s, with a modern edge. White wall panelling, dark green ceiling paint, rich oak panelling and red leather seating come together to capture "the spirit of Italian family restaurants" from times gone by. It features a wool carpet by German brand Findeisen and suspended ceiling tiles, with a colour palette of muted yellows, oranges and browns. This experimental space for cosmetic clinic Youth Lab takes on the daring task of balancing the brand's minimalist identity with a retro style reminiscent of 1970s Milan.

Conversation pits facilitated face-to-face conversations and gatherings—creating an intimate, laid-back atmosphere for friends and family to connect. They were typically surrounded by built-in seating and often had shag carpeting. Malina says you can bring this motif into your bedroom through the frame of a side chair or in a pendant lamp hanging from the ceiling. Rattan is a type of wood that comes from vine-type plants found in tropical regions. It is very malleable, making it ideal for creating furniture or baskets that have a curved shape.

1369 Coffee House Review Cambridge Boston

1369 coffee house

We get our coffees in weekly, so come in and see what’s available. We have several freshly brewed iced teas to cool you down. From the beginning, we envisioned 1369 as more than just a place to get coffee.

Our specialty drink menu rotates frequently, and this list may not always be updated. Please see our current menu here.

Many Coffeehouses turn their leftovers into iced coffee. We use a unique cold brew toddy method so that all of our iced coffee is smooth and never bitter. At 1369 Coffee House, we offer up to two dozen varieties of coffee from around the world, roasted fresh by local roasters. Our roasts range from a full city light mahogany roast to a dark Italian roast. Different roasts bring out the distinctive characteristics of each varietal. Once roasted, coffee has a limited life span, about 2-4 weeks if properly stored.

Vinyl records can still be found freely for very little, although some artists and albums fetch large sums. The thrill of the chase is in finding beauties in piles of vinyl at car boot sales, in-between Mrs Mills Piano Singalong and copies of Top of the Pops. Over the past year, Mercari has seen huge spikes in demand for many quintessential elements of '70s design. Searches for rattan and wicker on the site have nearly tripled, while decor featuring macramé, crochet, and fringe details has also surged, Olson says.

Earthy Color Palettes

Carpets in the bathroom and kitchen marked a turning point, and the carpet industry was eventually outpaced by hard flooring options in the early 2000s. Lighting was another important feature in the ‘70s, with a shift towards softer, more ambient lighting. Lava lamps, multi-layered pendants, and mushroom lamps became popular to create a relaxed atmosphere. Lighting fixtures from this era were not just functional – they were artistic statement pieces that made you feel good. Today, people are treating lighting as more than just functional, using it to set the mood with an artistic touch.

Wicker chairs

Sophisticated wood paneling, earthy tones, and clean lined velvet couches help the space feel grounded but still light. The ‘earth movement’ began in the 1970s, with activism influencing popular culture and design. Designers and homeowners began incorporating rich, earthy tones in their spaces. Think natural hues like burnt orange, chocolate brown, olive green, and mustard yellow – the opposite of the minimalist hues that had previously dominated.

Geometric Shapes

In the 1950s, new technologies developed and gave rise to the inexpensive nylon broadloom carpeting, which many of us have come to know as the carpeting standard. During the post-World War II housing boom, technicolored and patterned carpeting was installed in new houses across the country because it was inexpensive and quick to lay. Americans still loved carpeting around this time, and it was marketed as a cozy and plush finish for living rooms and bedrooms.

The 1970's were all about textiles like needlepoint, bargello, and macrame. And Object's generously proportioned sofa uses a Pierre Frey flame stitch-inspired fabric to create a design filled with nostalgia. If you've never experimented with orange or yellow, now is your chance.

'70s Design Is Back: Here Are 5 Ways to Make the Retro Style Feel Fresh

As Malina says, people are increasingly craving an eclectic approach to design, one that represents a freeing expression of creativity. The 1970s look allows experimentation with color, pattern, shape, and texture, unlike any other design movement. Wood paneling is back, baby, so tear down that wallpaper and scrape the paint off your walls! (Alternatively, give it a coat of white or off-white paint to brighten up the room without losing the paneling effect).

The “Space Age” refers to a cultural and design movement that emerged in the mid-20th century—particularly during the 1950s and 1960s, and extended into the 1970s. It was characterized by the fascination with space exploration, scientific advancements, and the possibilities of a futuristic, spacefaring society. In the 1970s, a free-spirited, fun feel permeated culture—and it showed through the decor of the time. If you want that 70s look for your home and to create an instant statement do not shy away when it comes to painting or decorating your room. If you can’t face the whole room being in a bright colour, then you can tone it down with warm white or magnolia walls. Our wallpaper, sold on com, allows you to get the look instantly without trying to track down multiple rolls of vintage wallpaper.

1970s interior design

Postmodernist interiors could incorporate both luxurious and utilitarian elements in the same space. Some homeowners and designers in the 1970s were also influenced by Eastern design philosophies like Feng Shui—which emphasized the importance of balance and the flow of energy in interior spaces. Indoor plants were often seen as tools for achieving this balance in one’s interior living space. As a response to urbanization and the desire to reconnect with the natural world, indoor plants and organic materials became a way to bring a touch of nature into the home. Macramé wall hangings, plant hangers, and hanging plants were all popular decorative elements. Bold, colorful artwork and quirky, often humorous decor items were popular choices.

Earthy Color Palette

It's even more impactful if the lighting contrasts with the existing style of the space. "I love adding a pair of Italian '70s pendants to a traditional kitchen," Thomas says. The best '70s patterns included a lot of geometric shapes and repetition. We love the idea of introducing these fun patterns into your home using more subdued colors for the perfect blend of retro and modern. If a pastel toaster reminds you of your granny's kitchen, it's time to think again. Today's colorful appliances are a lovely mix of modern and vintage-inspired and are perfect for adding a pop of color to your white witchen.

1970s interior design

Dazey decorated a Palm Springs midcentury home with bold colors and '70s-inspired prints, but still kept it modern by focusing on clean lines and a healthy balance of retro and modern. There's something incredibly charming and uplifting about '70s-era decor styles. From cheery colors to bold, eye-catching prints, the decade was a truly remarkable one for home décor.

Greek flokati rugs are still made and sold today and are real investment pieces. The quality and sound mean that the hi-fi is still incredibly sought after by audiophiles today as superior to some modern equipment. Even mid-range hi-fis in the 70s were made incredibly well and sound great. There are many ways to purchase vintage set ups and specialists who will refurbish them too.

Perhaps most dominant is the return of the earthy colour schemes, biophilic accents such as leafy plants and mushroom-shaped lamps, and low-slung furniture. McKinley is currently designing two residential projects with rich earth tone colour schemes, deep low-slung furniture, open floor plans and sunken living rooms. Meanwhile, Tagliaferri is busy sourcing seventies homages in a restaurant he’s working on in Milan, and Lonstein is incorporating many of these elements into the renovation of his Manhattan apartment. Blend '70s design trends into a mix of other styles to achieve a personalized look.

Go for it—pick the bold couch or the spunky chairs and make a splash. During Milan design week in 2018, local studio Studiopepe opened a temporary private venue in a 19th-century warehouse that attempted to capture the spirit of 1970s nightclubs. Warm colours are paired with tactile materials to create a cosier atmosphere than the traditional office, as a response to the increased prevalence of working from home. Local studio Krøyer & Gatten designed this Michelin-starred restaurant in Aarhus to feel like a Danish home from 50 years ago.

The reality of Cook’s residence, as Smith learned when he found photographs of it in an old issue of Palm Springs Life magazine, was not quite all that. For starters, she had had every room outfitted with wall-to-wall carpeting, which Smith promptly pulled up and replaced with acres of travertine. The variegated stone now runs throughout the
single-story dwelling, its colors ranging from pale lapis to olive, khaki, and off-white. They really knew how to relax in the 1970s, and the low, chunky sculptural furniture facilitated some serious lounging. Furniture of the era is soft, marshmallowy, curved and all about comfort. The 70s was a time of major advances in the design of chairs and modular office furniture.

During the Gold Rush of the mid-1800s, the United States claimed the city and it saw considerable growth as a metropolitan area. The 1906 earthquakes and fire left the majority of San Francisco in ruins but, miraculously, the city bounced back.

The Cruise Terminals in Barcelona Spain Port: Review 2023

cruise ships in barcelona port

Pharmacies are abundant in Barcelona, with some located near the port. Barcelona, being a major European cruise port and a gateway to the Mediterranean, plays host to a plethora of cruise lines. These range from luxury, intimate vessels to massive, state-of-the-art ships that resemble floating cities. As you step closer to the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean, Barcelona’s cruise port welcomes you with open arms. But before you embark on your sea voyage, it’s worth taking a moment to explore the extensive facilities and amenities that this modern port offers.

West Mediterranean Ports

There is a shuttle bus available from the cruise port known as the Blue Bus which takes cruisers to the monument of Christopher Columbus (just below Las Ramblas). There are two more cruise terminals at the World Trade Centre pier, known as the North and South terminals. The majority of the cruise terminals (A, B, C, D, and E) can be found on Adossat Quay, a long pier to the outside of the harbor, which is connected to the rest of the port by a bridge. If you have already booked your cruise and flights, there are a few insider tips to keep in mind.

Over the past 14 years she has explored 45+ countries and lived in Oslo, Kraków, Bali and Lombok. Every month she helps more than 50,000 people plan their adventures and learn how to create more freedom by working online.

Is it possible to store my cruise luggage and explore the city?

Though the bustling Barcelona cruise port might seem a bit overwhelming, don’t worry. You can either take a taxi or bus 59 at La Rambla – Santa Mònica (1325) stop and get off at Pg Marítim – Pepe Rubianes (1606) stop. It might be challenging to find taxis at Barceloneta Beach on the way back to the ship. You need to book a taxi via the app or pre-book the transfer to the port. It is a tourist-packed street full of shops, street restaurants, souvenir kiosks, street performers, and a great number of attractions.

The Barcelona cruise terminal can be found in Port de Barcelona, which sits just beneath the Gothic Quarter of the city, a short walk away from many of Barcelona’s key sights. As you take a stroll down the city’s charming streets or marvel at the unique architecture of Sagrada Família, it’s easy to see why. All sorts of amenities will be found at the Terminals including large sitting areas with AC, shopping, cafeterias, money exchange, and, of course, plenty of taxis available if disembarking. Because Barcelona is not used frequently as a port of call, you will not find Tourist Information Kiosks at the Terminals although you may find a desk with maps and touristic brochures. This hotel offers magnificent views of the port area and is a good base for your trip to Barcelona. Another option is to book online a private transfer from the Cruise Port to Barcelona Airport (or vice versa).

So as you can see, there is no shortage of things to see and do near the Barcelona cruise port. Whether you’re interested in history, art, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, there is something for everyone in this vibrant city. The Gothic Quarter is one of the most historic and charming neighborhoods in Barcelona. Along La Rambla, you will find many interesting sights and attractions. One of the most popular is the Boqueria Market, a colorful and bustling market that sells fresh produce, seafood, meats, and other local delicacies.

The remaining 62% were owned by the Turkish company Global Ports Holding/GPH. Since 2023, GPH is the sole proprietor of Creuers del Port de Barcelona's shares as RCG opted to divest its stake (38%) to ensure compliance with the Terminal G tender's conditions. Port Barcelona has a total of 8 cruise ship terminals, 4 ferry terminals, and 2 large yacht marinas.

Many offer shuttle services making it easy for passengers needing convenient access to their cruises. I am the creator of an e-book “Mediterranean Cruise Port Guide“, the most comprehensive guide to 45 Mediterranean cruise ports, & YouTube channel @AdventourBegins. For cruise passengers, it is easy to get around as La Rambla is located within walking distance of the ship. When you reach the entrance to the cruise terminal after catching the bus or train, you will then need to take the Blue Bus shuttle if your cruise ship is stationed on Adossat Quay.

Even if you don’t decide to go inside, it’s well worth stopping here to admire the facade, although a visit inside is well worth it. Before you do that though, and if you have a longer stopover, you might consider visiting the nearby Maritime Museum or the Barcelona Aquarium. The Maritime Museum is found in the former royal arsenal of Barcelona, which dates in part from the 13th century, and is a stunning building of itself.

The terminal buildings are equipped with modern facilities, such as duty-free shops, elevators, souvenir shops, a bar restaurant, an exchange office, public phones, restrooms, and ATMs. There is a taxi rank in front of each terminal, as well as a shuttle bus station and parking for tour buses. The cruise lines may organize shuttle buses (for an additional fee) to transfer the passengers to the area of the World Trade Center, located a 5-minute walk from Christopher Columbus Monument, where La Rambla starts. ✔️ Taxis to the cruise port from the airport typically take around 15 minutes and cost around €40.

The Hop on Hop off bus stops quite near the entrance to Park Güell, just requiring a short walk uphill to the entrance. It’s a monumental cathedral which incorporates many of his design ideas, and construction has been underway for over 100 years. Whilst not finished, it was consecrated in 2010, so is an active place of worship. Note that Casa Batlló is a popular spot for visitors, so you might want to book your ticket in advance and skip the ticket line. The house as it stands today is pretty mind blowing, from the Venetian mask inspired balconies through to the dragon like chimney on the roof, with a number of unique and innovative features throughout.

There is no need to book in advance since there are always plenty of licensed cabs waiting at the taxi ranks at both airport terminals. You can book a shuttle from Barcelona airport to the cruise port with Moventis Experience. There are no set times or vehicles, it all depends on when you arrive and how many passengers have booked the shuttle. The shuttle bus runs in circles from the port to the Colombus Statue in front of the World Trade Centre and costs €3 per person and €4.5 for a return ticket. From there, you have to walk about 7 minutes to reach the metro station and the beginning of La Rambla.
